Three’s Company Star Joyce DeWitt Arrested for DUI

Posted in Drunk Driving

Joyce DeWitt, best known for her role as Janet Wood on the 80s sitcom “Three’s Company,” was arrested for driving under the influence on July 4th in El Segundo, California. The actress was pulled over by police after driving past a police barricade. An officer reportedly smelled alcohol on her breath, and after interrogation and field sobriety tests, DeWitt was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

The 60-year-old actress posted bail for $5,000. Since appearing on “Three’s Company” with John Ritter and Suzanne Somers, DeWitt disappeared from the public eye, reportedly citing mistreatment by the show’s producers as a reason for leaving show business. In 2003, she co-produced and hosted a television film called “Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Three’s Company.” The documentary portrays her former co-star Suzanne Somers in a negative light, stating that Somers wanted to become the next Farrah Fawcett and tried to negotiate a 500 percent salary increase.

DeWitt joins an ever-lengthening list of celebrities who have been arrested for DUI, including Nicole Richie, Mel Gibson, Heather Locklear, Shia LeBeouf, Kiefer Sutherland, Lori Petty, “The OC’s” Mischa Barton, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Nick Nolte, Mickey Rourke, and “The Sixth Sense’s” Haley Joel Osment.
